2. Exclusion from District of Columbia juries on account of sexual orientation or gender identity prohibited

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the "District of Columbia Local Juror Non-Discrimination Act of 2025".


2. Exclusion from District of Columbia juries on account of sexual orientation or gender identity prohibited

(a) Prohibiting discrimination - Section 11–1903, District of Columbia Official Code, is amended—

(1) - by striking "A citizen" and inserting "(a) A citizen"; and

(2) - by adding at the end the following new subsection:

(b) - In subsection (a), the term "sex"—

(1) - includes—

(A) - a sex stereotype;

(B) - pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition;

(C) - sexual orientation (defined as homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality) or gender identity; and

(D) - sex characteristics, including intersex traits; and

(2) - when used with respect to an individual, includes—

(A) - the sex of another person with whom the individual is associated or has been associated; and

(B) - a perception or belief, even if inaccurate, concerning the sex of the individual.

(b) No effect on other remedies - Section 11–1910(c), District of Columbia Official Code, is amended—

(1) - by striking "(c) The procedures" and inserting "(c)(1) The procedures"; and

(2) - by adding at the end the following new paragraph:

(2) - In paragraph (1), the term "sex"—

(A) - includes—

(i) - a sex stereotype;

(ii) - pregnancy, childbirth, or a related medical condition;

(iii) - sexual orientation (defined as homosexuality, heterosexuality, or bisexuality) or gender identity; and

(iv) - sex characteristics, including intersex traits; and

(B) - when used with respect to an individual, includes—

(i) - the sex of another person with whom the individual is associated or has been associated; and

(ii) - a perception or belief, even if inaccurate, concerning the sex of the individual.
