1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the "Border Operations Service Medal Act".


2. Findings

Congress finds the following:

(1) - The President, by Executive Order in January 2025, authorized national security operations along the United States-Mexico border.

(2) - Servicemembers and Federal personnel participated in extensive security, humanitarian, and enforcement efforts.

(3) - Recognizing their contributions with a distinct service medal is essential for honoring their dedication and commitment.

3. Establishment of service medal

(a) Establishment - To reflect service and commitment during designated border security operations between January 1, 2025, and the conclusions of such operations, the Secretary of Defense, in consultation with the heads of military service branches, shall design and issue a "Border Operations Service Medal" (in this section referred to as the "Medal") to—

(1) - active-duty members of the Armed Forces, and

(2) - members of the National Guard and Reserve,

(b) Authorization for wear - The Medal shall be authorized for wear according to military uniform regulations and Federal service recognition guidelines.

(c) Implementation - Not later than 60 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall issue regulations to carry out this section.
