Overview
This site is under active development. The main focus is accurate, timely data about bills and legislators. Have comments or suggestions? Go to your feedback page to leave feedback for the team.
Inspiration
USLegi was inspired by a group of highschool students in the 2013 Code Michigan contest who created a proof of concept app called "MiLegi". That project showed how transparency can help civic engagement. Years later the idea was extended to the federal level.
What We Do
USLegi shows how legislators vote, provides full bill text when available, and offers tools to follow bills and representatives. Community support signals help show public sentiment on issues and lawmakers.
Why create an account?
Accounts unlock features that make the site more useful:
- Personal home page with quick links to your state representatives
- Follow bills to get updates when they change or are voted on
- Record support or opposition for bills and representatives
- See how representatives vote relative to your preferences
- Participate in forums and discussions
How your data is used
Review your data-sharing preferences to control what is saved for analytics or historical records. When we record historical approval ratings, we respect each user's sharing settings. If sharing is disabled, we keep only anonymous approval values.
More specifically
Periodically we collect aggregate approval data for analysis. The interval may vary. Data is tied to user choices set in Sharing preferences. If you enable additional data points they may be included in aggregate reports. Turning settings off is not retroactive for already-saved data.
Roadmap
Current priorities are accuracy and stability. Planned features include:
- Accurate summaries of long bill texts
- Improved community features and forums
- Data-driven insights and visualizations
